The Quartier WIR is a housing project located in Berlin Weißensee, Germany. It consists of five structurally identical wooden building blocks, each with 4-5 storeys, offering a mix of 1 to 6-bedroom apartments for shared and group living, as well as condominiums. The project was completed in 2020 and covers a total floor space of approximately 12,400 square meters, including 207 flats and 9 commercial units. The buildings are constructed using a hybrid method, combining concrete basements and stairwells with wooden frame construction and solid timber ceilings. The façades are made of prefabricated wooden panels with cellulose filling, and the buildings are equipped with ventilation systems that recover heat from exhaust air, achieving the KfW-40 energy standard. The project emphasizes sustainability and social diversity, featuring barrier-free construction, communal spaces, and a mix of rental flats, condominiums, and cooperative models. It has received several awards, including the Federal Environment & Building Award of the Federal Environment Agency 2020 and the Climate Protection Partner Award 2019.
