Dark Matter Labs is an international organisation focused on accelerating societal transition towards collective care, shared agency, and long-term sustainability. Born out of Project 00 in London, it has rapidly expanded to become a global entity with legal platforms in the UK, Netherlands, Canada, South Korea, and Sweden. The organisation operates with a mission-led approach, prioritising discovery and learning in its work. It explores the "dark matter" of societal systems - the invisible structures such as policy, regulation, finance, and governance that shape our world. Dark Matter Labs works with partners to develop new working methods for system change, aiming to manifest transformations in food, housing, land, material, and nature systems towards a future of mutual thriving. With a team spread across 15 countries, Dark Matter Labs has adapted to the challenges of remote work, fostering a culture of shared relationships and social contracts. The organisation is structured to avoid geographical silos, instead focusing on cross-geographical collaboration and co-creation. Key projects include "Re:Permissioning the City," which unlocks underutilised spatial assets for an emergent civic economy, and "The Cornerstone Indicators," a participatory indicator design process in the Swedish city of Västerås. Dark Matter Labs also engages in initiatives like "7GenCities," fostering transformative thinking and action for future city and community building and Earth stewardship. Through its work, Dark Matter Labs seeks to build a more equitable, caring, and sustainable future by redesigning the institutional infrastructure that underpins our societies.
