The European Collective Housing Award promotes innovative collective housing projects across Europe, aiming to enhance housing policies and improve quality of life through sustainable urban development solutions.
The European Collective Housing Award is an initiative aimed at promoting and recognizing innovative collective housing projects across Europe. Launched by the Basque Country Architecture Institute and arc en rêve centre d'architecture, with support from the Department of Territorial Planning, Housing and Transport of the Basque Government, this award seeks to highlight the importance of housing policies and their impact on society. The award is open to collective housing developments in any of the 46 countries that make up the Council of Europe. Eligible candidates include public administrations, development companies, architects, construction companies, and users of the developments. The evaluation focuses on how each project enriches the concept of housing by offering new perspectives and solutions to contemporary challenges, aiming to improve the quality of life for inhabitants and communities. The award is given every two years and is judged by an international jury. The first edition's jury includes renowned experts such as Anne Lacaton, Kristiaan Borret, Fernanda Canales, Emanuele Coccia, and Christian Hadaler. The award ceremony is expected to take place in July 2024, following the submission deadline in May 2024. By recognizing innovative collective housing projects, the European Collective Housing Award aims to foster a critical debate about housing and its role in sustainable urban development. It seeks to build a living archive of exemplary projects, contributing to the collective understanding of housing in its various forms across Europe.
