JPI Urban Europe is a transnational initiative aimed at addressing the complex urban challenges of today through collaborative research and innovation. Established in 2010, it brings together European countries and the European Union to foster sustainable and economically viable urban areas. The organisation operates through a structured framework that includes a governing board, management board, scientific advisory board, and stakeholder involvement platform, ensuring a comprehensive approach to urban research and innovation. Over the years, JPI Urban Europe has funded over 100 research and innovation projects, focusing on topics such as urban sustainability transitions, inclusive mobility, and urban planning. The initiative has also developed a strategic research and innovation agenda (SRIA) that outlines its vision and goals for urban transformations beyond 2020. Key activities include the Urban Lunch Talks, a webinar series that attracts innovators, practitioners, and researchers from around the globe, and the Agora Stakeholder Involvement Platform, which facilitates collaboration among urban stakeholders to address pressing urban challenges. JPI Urban Europe aims to become a well-recognised source of knowledge for informing European and international urban policies. It emphasizes co-creation, mutual learning, and capacity building in urban planning, management, and policy making. By fostering a transdisciplinary approach and engaging diverse stakeholders, JPI Urban Europe seeks to contribute to the development of sustainable and resilient urban areas.
