MOBA Housing SCE is a pioneering network of housing cooperatives that aims to make housing more affordable in Central and South-Eastern Europe. Formed by groups from Belgrade, Budapest, Ljubljana, Prague, and Zagreb, MOBA brings together diverse expertise to develop and finance cooperative housing projects. The network was established in response to the region's housing crisis, where many households struggle to afford homes due to high costs and limited access to mortgages. MOBA's approach is centered around collective ownership and management of multi-apartment buildings. Members of the cooperative contribute financially and participate in decision-making processes, ensuring that housing costs are kept affordable and stable over time. This model has been tested in other parts of Europe and is now being adapted for the Central and South-Eastern European context. Key members of MOBA include the Cooperative for Ethical Financing in Zagreb, Ko Gradi Grad in Belgrade, and Zadrugator in Ljubljana, among others. These organizations have extensive experience in project management, architectural design, and advocacy for housing cooperatives. MOBA is supported by international partners such as urbaMonde, World Habitat, and the Heinrich Böll Foundation. By pooling resources and expertise, MOBA aims to create a new model for affordable housing in the region.
