Space10, a research and design lab based in Copenhagen, Denmark, was established in 2015 with a mission to create a better everyday life for people and the planet. Linked to IKEA, the lab aimed to explore innovative design solutions to pressing environmental and social issues. Over nearly a decade, Space10 has been recognized for its groundbreaking work, being shortlisted for over 120 design awards and featured in prominent exhibitions at the Design Museum in London, the Biennale of Architecture in Shenzhen, and the Smithsonian in Washington DC. The lab's projects have been diverse and impactful. Notable examples include "Future Food Today," a cookbook that promotes sustainable food production and consumption, and "The Ideal City: Exploring Urban Futures," a book and interactive exhibition that explores how to create better urban living environments. Additionally, Space10 developed a flat-pack, 100% recyclable sofa that fits into an envelope, showcasing its commitment to sustainable design. Despite its closure in August 2023, Space10's legacy continues. The lab's co-founder, Kaave Pour, emphasizes that the mission lives on through its team, partners, and community. A new website has been created to showcase the lab's standout work and provide access to open-source projects and exhibitions. Space10's influence on IKEA and the broader design community is undeniable, leaving a lasting impact on how we approach sustainability and innovation.
