The University for Continuing Education Krems, also known as Danube University Krems, has established itself as Europe's leading public institution for continuing education. Founded in 1994, the university began operations in 1995 with just 93 students enrolled in European Studies and journalism programs. Located in Krems an der Donau, a historic wine-producing town in northeastern Austria, the university is housed in a renovated tobacco factory complemented by modern facilities designed by architect Dietmar Feichtinger. The campus spans 34,000 square meters and features transparent architecture that harmoniously integrates old and new structures. The university achieved full university status in 2004 and gained the right to award doctorates in 2014. In 2019, it was incorporated into Austria's Universities Act as a public university and accepted into the Austrian University Conference. Currently, approximately 7,500 working professionals are enrolled in over 200 academic courses across fields including medicine, business management, law, education, and arts. The institution focuses on research addressing contemporary societal challenges through four main research fields: Cohesive and Innovative Societies, Cultural Heritage, Regenerative Medicine, and Continuing Education Research. The university shares Campus Krems with IMC University of Applied Sciences and Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences, creating an educational hub for more than 11,000 students and 1,100 staff members. The campus includes state-of-the-art teaching facilities, research infrastructure, accommodations, and various services that foster an ideal environment for learning and research.
