Green City Solutions, founded in Dresden in 2014 by Peter Sänger, Victor Splittgerber, Zhengliang Wu, and Dénes Honus, emerged from their shared academic backgrounds in horticulture, computer science, architecture, and mechanical engineering. Now based on the EUREF Campus in Berlin, the organization addresses urban air pollution through an innovative blend of moss-based biofilters and IoT technology under products like the CityTree and CityBreeze. The flagship CityTree is a vertical moss wall capable of filtering pollutants like CO₂ and particulate matter, offering an air-cleansing efficiency equivalent to 275 trees while occupying minimal urban space. In addition to purifying air, the installations cool and humidify the environment. These solutions have been implemented across Europe and Asia, aiming to combat air pollution's health and environmental impacts. Over its decade-long journey, Green City Solutions has completed more than 60 projects, building on advancements from its moss laboratory and farm. The company launched its CityBreeze model in 2021, integrating air purification with advertising potential, followed by WallBreeze in 2023. Their "climAD" network, utilizing CityBreeze units, expanded to 30 installations by late 2023. Employing over 20 people, the organization has earned over 25 awards, reflecting its contribution to sustainable urban living. Supported by EU funding and partnerships, Green City Solutions exemplifies the integration of nature and technology to address critical urban challenges like air quality and climate change.
