Rhomberg Group, based in Bregenz, Austria, is a fourth-generation family-owned enterprise that has evolved into an international player in construction, railway technology, and resource sectors. Founded in 1886 by Otto Rhomberg in Bregenz, the company initially focused on local building projects. Key regional landmarks such as the Kornmarkt Theatre, Bregenz Festival Theatre, and Kunsthaus Bregenz were constructed by Rhomberg, cementing its local influence. After a turbulent early 20th century, Walter Rhomberg reestablished the business under his name in 1938. The post-war reconstruction period fueled growth, leading to the company’s expansion into infrastructure and railway construction. The 1970s and 1980s saw significant diversification, with Rhomberg entering new sectors like property development and acquiring subsidiaries in concrete and asphalt. Today, the Rhomberg Group employs around 4,000 people worldwide, with about 960 at Rhomberg Bau as of March 2024. In the 2023/24 financial year, Rhomberg Bau recorded an operating performance of €542 million. The group operates across Austria, Switzerland, Germany, and other international markets. Notable recent projects include the Zechwald site in Lindau, the comparison of timber versus solid construction methods in Wolfurt, and developments in railway technology through the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group. The company remains headquartered in Bregenz at Mariahilfstraße 29 and is managed by Hubert Rhomberg, emphasizing a hands-on approach rooted in its long family tradition.
