Supports social, environmental, and cultural initiatives in Europe.
The Allianz Foundation is a private, non-profit foundation operating from offices near the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. It was established in 2022 through the merger of two preexisting entities: the Allianz Kulturstiftung, founded in 2000, and the Allianz Umweltstiftung, launched in 1989 on the 100th anniversary of Allianz AG. The combined foundation inherits a significant endowment and a legacy rooted in supporting environmental and cultural initiatives. Allianz Foundation’s mission centers on addressing contemporary social, environmental, and cultural challenges, with a particular focus on Europe and the Mediterranean. Its activities go beyond traditional grant-making, aiming to foster cooperation among civil society, the arts, and climate action. Some programs, like the Allianz Foundation Fellows, support individuals working for systemic change, while the Foundation Hubs link local initiatives for knowledge exchange across borders. The organization also produces data-driven studies, such as the Allianz Foundation Study, to better understand the concerns and aspirations of upcoming generations. A recent example of its work is the “Climate Culture Call,” a funding program that supports projects at the intersection of climate action and culture. The Foundation’s projects often address issues such as social justice and open societies. In 2022, more than 300 partners and stakeholders attended its launch event in Berlin. The Foundation is overseen by Christian Humborg as CEO, and its ongoing funding is supported by Allianz SE, which provides regular donations to further philanthropic engagement in the region.
