Promotes social responsibility and community engagement through foundations.
The Montag Stiftungen comprise a group of independent, charitable foundations based in Bonn, Germany. The group's origins are closely tied to its founder, Carl Richard Montag, whose vision was to promote social responsibility through actions and design. The overarching Carl Richard Montag Förderstiftung manages the collective assets and finances project work, while each foundation operates with autonomy in its specific domain. Currently, five foundations constitute the group: Montag Stiftung Jugend und Gesellschaft (focused on youth and society), Montag Stiftung Urbane Räume (urban spaces), Montag Stiftung Kunst und Gesellschaft (art and society), and Montag Stiftung Denkwerkstatt (a think tank for communications and social innovation). Together, they address areas including pedagogical architecture, fair urban development, participative arts, digital transformation in education, and inclusive full-day schooling. Among their notable projects is the redevelopment of the historic former American Club in Bonn's Bad Godesberg district. The project, called the Open Embassy for Democracy, aims to establish an open and protected space for democratic discourse, inclusion, and public participation. The foundations have committed between 8 and 10 million euros for the building's acquisition and renovation and support initiatives that encourage civil society to take over long-term responsibility for the site after its restoration. The Montag Stiftungen's work is firmly rooted in community participation and social innovation, reflected in their funding structures and project transparency. The foundations serve as catalysts for societal engagement in Bonn, often supporting local authorities, associations, and civic initiatives, and maintaining a distinct focus on openness and social impact.
