ALTER EGO is a participative housing project located in the Terraillon neighborhood of Bron, a commune adjacent to Lyon, France. Developed by ICEO, a social economy and solidarity-focused real estate developer founded by Eric GΓ©rard, the project consists of 13 apartments within a single section of one of two buildings. The initiative follows the concept of "habitat participatif" (participatory housing), where future residents actively engage in the design process of both their individual living spaces and common areas. This approach fosters community building by allowing neighbors to meet before moving in and collaborate around shared values and visions for their living environment. ALTER EGO offers housing at very affordable prices (approximately 2,950β¬/mΒ²), significantly lower than the average Lyon market rates. The project demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, utilizing biosourced materials and construction methods that enhance environmental quality while ensuring resident comfort. It adheres to RE 2020 standards (threshold 2025), has achieved Level 2 Biosourced Building certification, and follows the Sustainable Housing Framework of the Lyon Metropolis (2022 Edition). The development is part of the broader urban renewal of the Terraillon district, which aims to better integrate the area with the city, create an attractive living environment for residents, and develop a neighborhood that takes ecological transition into account. ICEO's role is to guide participants through the entire process, from group formation to housing delivery.
