Blaue Insel is an innovative housing cooperative project located in Berlin's Tempelhof-Schöneberg district, near the Südkreuz station. The project, developed by the Blaue Insel eG cooperative, aims to create a sustainable and community-oriented living space in the newly developed Schöneberger Linse area. The complex consists of 50 apartments, including 13 rent-controlled units managed by social service providers. The building, expected to be completed in early 2024, incorporates sustainable design features such as energy-efficient construction (KfW40 standard), green roofing, and rainwater management systems. A unique aspect of Blaue Insel is its ground floor, which offers approximately 600 square meters of flexible commercial space. This area is designed to accommodate various businesses, including cafes, restaurants, offices, and cultural institutions, contributing to the neighborhood's vibrancy and providing essential services to residents. The project emphasizes community involvement and self-governance, with residents actively participating in the cooperative's management. Blaue Insel also focuses on creating a diverse and inclusive living environment, reflecting Berlin's multicultural character. By combining affordable housing, sustainable design, and community-oriented spaces, Blaue Insel represents a forward-thinking approach to urban development. It aims to address Berlin's housing challenges while fostering a strong sense of community and environmental responsibility.
