EKKO is an innovative housing project located on the right bank of the Garonne River in Bordeaux, France. Designed by Duncan Lewis - Scape Architecture, the residence consists of 49 apartments ranging from T1 to T5, covering a living area of 3,260 m2. The project, completed in 2022, stands out for its eco-friendly approach and unique architectural features. The building incorporates bio-sourced materials such as wood, hemp concrete, and terracotta, contributing to reduced summer temperatures in the city. Its distinctive white glazed flat tile roof reflects daylight, minimizing heat build-up. The ventilated facade cladding seamlessly integrates with the greenery of a three-dimensional garden, creating a harmonious blend of mineral and vegetation. A key feature of EKKO is its shared outdoor space, which spans five levels and includes floating trees. This innovative design addresses urban density issues while optimizing light, wind, sun, and air freshness. The space adapts to changing seasons, enhancing interior living areas and fostering a deeper connection with nature. The project aims to reconnect humanity with its environment, promoting harmony between people and their surroundings. EKKO represents a contemporary reinterpretation of Bordeaux's urban landscape, combining eco-conscious design with modern living to create a unique and sustainable residential experience.
