Greenh@use is a pioneering social housing project in Barcelona, designed by Peris+Toral Arquitectes. Completed in 2025, the eight-story building contains 140 apartments, making it the firm’s largest project to date and a notable example of multifamily residential architecture in the city. The building’s program is distinguished by its integration of three distinct housing types within a single structure: the upper three floors provide homes for seniors, the middle four are dedicated to affordable rentals, and the ground level offers temporary accommodations for refugees and homeless individuals. This vertical stacking of different functions, rather than placing them side by side, enables all residents to benefit from a vibrant central atrium. This sunlit communal core, characterized by pine finishes, muted terrazzo, and delicate metalwork, promotes interaction and a sense of community among residents. Greenh@use’s heavy, articulated façade acts as a unified exterior mask, while inside, the atmosphere is warm and open. The building features a striking corner design with a deep exoskeleton and west-facing brise soleil, which both filters sunlight and provides panoramic city views, including sights of the Sagrada Família. Communal lounges are situated at the building’s chamfered corner, leveraging the unique geometry of Barcelona’s Eixample district for both functional and aesthetic impact. Commissioned by the Institut Municipal de l’Habitatge i Rehabilitació de Barcelona, Greenh@use stands out for its inclusive approach, innovative organization of space, and commitment to meeting diverse resident needs within a dense urban environment.
