Kraftwerk1 Zwicky Süd is an innovative housing project located in Dübendorf, Switzerland, on the site of a former spinning mill. Completed in 2015/2016, the project was designed by Schneider Studer Primas architects and developed by the Kraftwerk1 cooperative. The settlement consists of three buildings housing 125 apartments, including two large cluster apartments of 13.5 and 14.5 rooms each. It offers a mix of residential and commercial spaces, with about 3,500 square meters dedicated to businesses. The project emphasizes sustainability, meeting Minergie-Eco standards and using solar energy and district heating from treated wastewater. Kraftwerk1 Zwicky Süd promotes community living and shared spaces. It features common areas, workshops, and zoned rooms that residents can rent. The development is designed to be car-light, with Mobility car-sharing services available and ample bicycle parking. The project stands out for its participatory planning process, involving future residents in decision-making. It also embraces a "raw" building concept, allowing residents to personalize and develop their living spaces over time. With its mix of housing types, sustainable design, and emphasis on community, Kraftwerk1 Zwicky Süd represents an innovative approach to urban living that balances private and shared spaces while promoting social interaction and environmental responsibility.
