Lobe Block, also known as Terrassenhaus Berlin, is a monumental building located in Berlin's Wedding district. Designed by architects Brandlhuber+ Emde, Burlon, and Muck Petzet, this multi-purpose structure combines commercial and residential elements, blurring the lines between work and living spaces. The building's distinctive architecture features a ziggurat-like shape with staggered levels, creating deep terraces on each floor. Its concrete facade and large glass windows offer panoramic views of Berlin. The structure maximizes semi-public space, including a covered sidewalk on the ground floor that serves as a plaza in front of the gallery space. Lobe Block houses a diverse mix of tenants, including a vegetarian/vegan restaurant, sustainable fashion labels, a yoga studio, and various architecture and design offices. The building also features a 1000 sqm south-facing garden, providing a private paradise in bustling Berlin. The project emphasizes sustainability, community interaction, and social responsibility. It offers flexible spaces that can adapt to various uses, from studios and co-working areas to potential future residential units. The building's design encourages shared use of outdoor spaces, including a common public rooftop area with spectacular city views. Lobe Block has gained recognition for its innovative approach, becoming a finalist in the prestigious Mies van der Rohe Award in 2019. It stands as a testament to forward-thinking urban development, combining brutalist aesthetics with modern functionality and community-oriented design.
