The Qville ecological co-housing project in Essen, Belgium, transformed the former Quarantine stables, a listed monument, into a sustainable community. The project restored the original volumes of the historical site and rebuilt disappeared buildings. The 1.7-hectare domain features 44 near-zero energy homes, including one to four-bedroom dwellings and intergenerational homes. Common areas include an indoor swimming pool, wellness area, community center, and roofed terrace with a swimming pond. Residents have access to car-sharing locations, solar energy charging stations, and bicycle sheds, emphasizing the site's traffic-free nature. The commercial area includes a pub and B&Bs for tourists, as well as an exposition area with historical information about the site. This project showcases a unique blend of ecological living and community-oriented design.
