San Riemo is an experimental cooperative residential building located in Messestadt Riem, Munich. Designed by SUMMACUMFEMMER in collaboration with Büro Juliane Greb for the Kooperative Großstadt, the project was completed in 2020. The building emerged from an open competition organized by the cooperative in 2017. The six-story structure houses 27 apartments across five upper floors, with commercial and communal spaces on the ground level. San Riemo's design emphasizes flexibility and communal living, featuring a unique spatial arrangement that allows for various living configurations. The building's layout is based on a three-aisled structure with versatile room units of equal size along the facades, while kitchens and bathrooms occupy the central area. A distinctive feature of San Riemo is its ability to accommodate different lifestyles and living arrangements. The apartments can expand or contract both in the short and long term, with some rooms capable of switching between different units simply by opening or closing doors. This concept, referred to as "nucleus living," promotes a dynamic and adaptable living environment. The building's exterior is characterized by a large 'conservatory façade' that visually connects the apartments, and large windows at street level that open the building to the city. The ground floor houses a residents' café, communal laundry, and other shared spaces, fostering a sense of community. Additionally, a communal roof garden with raised beds provides outdoor space for residents to enjoy.
