UFA Fabrik is a unique urban village and cultural center located in Berlin, Germany. Established in 1979 when a group of activists peacefully occupied an abandoned film studio, it has since evolved into a thriving community and ecological oasis spanning 18,566 square meters. The project combines alternative living, cultural activities, and environmental sustainability. It houses about 30 permanent residents and provides work for over 180 people. UFA Fabrik features multiple performance spaces, including theaters and an open-air stage, hosting a diverse range of events from concerts and circus shows to theater productions and workshops. Environmental sustainability is a core focus, with initiatives including green roofs, solar energy systems, rainwater harvesting, and organic food production. The site also includes a children's farm, a free school, and various community services, making it a hub for social engagement and education. UFA Fabrik attracts around 200,000 visitors annually, offering a mix of cultural events, ecological demonstrations, and community activities. It operates on principles of self-management and cooperation, with a strong emphasis on creativity, social responsibility, and sustainable living.
