WILLDAwohnen is a cohousing community in Vienna, Austria, whose name means "I want to live here" in German. Founded in 2016, the project consists of four houses built in the Wildgarten area near Rosenhügel in southwest Vienna, at the boundary of the Meidling and Liesing districts. The community is diverse, comprising 29 adults and 14 children from various generations, professions, and interests. They aim for a cross-generational, social, and open way of living. The project was completed in winter 2020/21, with 19 homes, a food cooperative, and co-working spaces that are open to the neighborhood. Unlike many housing projects in Vienna, WILLDAwohnen chose to waive housing subsidies from the city to avoid being bound by construction cost limits, resulting in relatively higher housing costs. The group is organized as an association, which owns the house and individual apartments to prevent speculation. The community follows sociocratic principles for internal discussions and decision-making. They share common spaces and emphasize sustainable living close to nature within the city. The project is part of the Wildgarten neighborhood, a residential development that incorporates different types of housing estates, including four housing cooperatives following the co-living concept. WILLDAwohnen exemplifies Vienna's innovative approach to housing, focusing on community building, sustainability, and collaborative living spaces while maintaining connections with other cohousing projects for knowledge sharing and collaboration.
