The Cooperative World Map is an interactive, data-driven platform designed to connect and showcase cooperatives and their support organizations worldwide. Launched by DotCooperation, in partnership with the Digital Commons Cooperative, the project aims to make the invisible aspects of the global cooperative economy visible. It is part of the broader Cooperative World Data Project and utilizes open-source technology to aggregate and display data on cooperatives around the world. Over 60,000 cooperatives have already been mapped, with plans for continual updates. The map offers tailored search functionalities, allowing users to find cooperatives by name, sector, type, or country. It serves multiple purposes, such as enhancing awareness of the cooperative model, facilitating partnerships, and supporting both local and global advocacy efforts. Importantly, the platform emphasizes Principle 6 of the International Cooperative Alliance, which encourages cooperation among cooperatives. This initiative goes beyond simply mapping cooperatives; it aims to strengthen the global cooperative identity and foster circular economies. It is designed for various stakeholders, including consumers, cooperative organizations, policymakers, and researchers. By providing reliable and regularly updated data, the map helps cooperatives connect, share resources, and deepen their impact within their communities and globally. As a long-term resource, the Cooperative World Map is set to play a pivotal role in promoting the cooperative economy during the International Year of Cooperatives 2025 and beyond.
