The organization, DotCoop, manages the .coop and .creditunion domains and develops platforms to strengthen and unite the global cooperative community.
The Cooperative World Map is an online platform that aims to unite and strengthen the cooperative community by providing a visual database of verified cooperative organizations worldwide. Developed by DotCoop, the registry of .coop and .creditunion domain names, this map uses open software to merge data from numerous organizations globally. It allows users to search for cooperatives by name, sector, type, country, and primary activity, making it easier for consumers and cooperatives to find and connect with each other. The map already features over 12,000 cooperatives and is designed to promote Principle 6 of cooperation among cooperatives in the digital era. It serves multiple purposes, including helping consumers find bonafide cooperatives to source products or services from, and enabling membership bodies to showcase the cooperative ecosystem on a regional or global scale. The map is regularly updated and is part of DotCoop's mission to develop tools that celebrate the cooperative difference and identity. The Cooperative World Map is a self-funded project that feeds into DotCoop's broader mission to unite and strengthen the cooperative community. It is set to be fully launched in 2025, coinciding with the International Year of Cooperatives declared by the United Nations.
