Cooperatives in the Housing Sector 2024 is an in-person event organised by Housing Europe, taking place on March 20, 2024 in Brussels. This session brings together housing cooperative representatives, policymakers, financial institutions, and other stakeholders to explore the key role of cooperatives in delivering affordable, community-driven, and sustainable housing solutions.
The event highlights cooperatives’ impact on affordability, democratic governance, and social equality, with discussions focusing on topics such as loneliness, local governance frameworks, youth exclusion from rental housing, and innovative pathways for affordable housing. Institutional insights from the financial sector and perspectives from the European Commission will be presented, as well as a preview of a comprehensive new report by Housing Europe’s Observatory.
The programme includes thematic debates, presentations by sector experts, and closing remarks from Cooperatives Europe. The event underscores the need for supportive legal and financial frameworks to achieve a twin digital and green transition, and to realize the values of the New European Bauhaus in sustainable housing across Europe.
