The PLEA 2024 Conference, held from June 25 to 28 in Wroclaw, Poland, brought together international experts, academics, practitioners, and students to discuss the future of sustainable architecture and urban design under the theme "(Re)thinking Resilience." This landmark 37th edition marked the first PLEA Conference ever hosted in Poland and Central Europe.
The event focused on urgent topics such as climate resilience, biophilic design, innovation in sustainable technology, renovations for sustainability, and the integration of climate adaptation strategies in buildings and cities. Sessions included keynote talks, technical panels, and networking events, complemented by guided tours and on-site visits throughout Wroclaw, emphasizing both practical and theoretical advances in response to climate change challenges.
The conference was organized by the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, led by Associate Professor Barbara Widera and her team, in collaboration with the PLEA Association (Passive and Low Energy Architecture), an internationally renowned non-profit group dedicated to advancing sustainable built environments. The program received honorary patronage from the university’s rector and drew broad participation from stakeholders across Europe, Latin America, North America, Asia, and beyond. The event aimed to foster actionable collaboration for climate-positive change in the built environment.
