Supports health, education, and global issues through funding and partnerships.
The Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH is one of Germany’s largest private foundations, headquartered in Stuttgart in the former home of industrialist Robert Bosch. Established in 1964, its financial base comes from a majority shareholding in Robert Bosch GmbH. The foundation employs around 170 staff in Stuttgart and Berlin. Rooted in Bosch’s will, the foundation’s purpose includes the support of health, education, and global issues. Among its earliest milestones is the founding of the Robert Bosch Hospital in Stuttgart in 1940, which now has over 1,000 beds and carries out both treatment and research. The foundation still maintains an influential role in the region’s social landscape. Robert Bosch Stiftung operates both its own projects and supports third-party initiatives, with activities spanning health, education, and topics such as peace, social inequality, climate change, democracy, and migration. Its approach combines funding, partnerships, and direct implementation, with around 800 internal and external projects managed annually. Recent work includes the Transatlantic Initiative with the Brookings Institution, which aims to strengthen U.S.–European collaboration on global geopolitical challenges, and health sector projects focused on sustainable healthcare systems that emphasize patient-centered care. The Foundation’s scope is deliberately international, extending its support to initiatives outside Germany as well. Since its establishment, the foundation has spent over €1 billion on grants and program work, seeking to find effective solutions to complex social issues. Its headquarters remains a testament to Robert Bosch’s commitment to philanthropy in Stuttgart and beyond.
