The King Baudouin Foundation (KBF) is an independent and pluralist public utility foundation based in Brussels, Belgium. Its mission is to contribute to building a better society in Belgium, Europe, and globally by supporting projects and citizens committed to social justice, democracy, and respect for diversity. The foundation focuses on several thematic areas, including social justice and poverty, health, heritage and culture, democracy, climate, environment, and biodiversity, as well as education and development of talents. It operates both in Belgium and internationally, with a particular emphasis on Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The KBF has a budget of 203.4 million euros in 2024, making it the largest public utility foundation in Belgium. It provides financial support to organizations and individuals through various programs, such as the Elisabeth and Amélie Fund for community water projects, the Efico Fund for sustainable development in coffee and cocoa communities, and the Business Partnership Facility for private sector involvement in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Recent projects include the KBF African Development Prize, which recognizes substantial contributions to development in Africa, and various grants for grassroots development initiatives.
