CoHabitat.io is an open data platform that connects and documents community-led housing projects, promoting collaboration and awareness of innovative, people-driven housing solutions worldwide.
CoHabitat.io is an open data and collaborative tool designed to document and connect community-led housing projects and their allies. It serves as a platform where users can browse information about partners and projects, as well as add new information. The goal of CoHabitat.io is to document and share the stories of community-led housing initiatives globally, highlighting the scale and potential of people-driven habitat solutions. The CoHabitat Network, which manages the project, is a network of community-led housing organizations and allies working together to secure housing through collective, non-speculative, people-led solutions. Community-led housing is defined as a process by which inhabitants organize to build cities from the bottom up, planning, financing, building, managing housing, and improving public spaces and neighborhood facilities. By crowdsourcing information and stories around community-led housing, CoHabitat.io aims to raise awareness about these initiatives, share good practices, highlight successes, and facilitate networking and partnerships. The platform is part of a broader effort to promote collaborative housing at local and international levels, initiated by UrbaMonde, an association founded in Switzerland and based in France since 2015.
