Facilitates sustainable urban development through cross-sector collaboration.
Actors of Urban Change is an international network and program that focuses on sustainable urban development in Europe. The initiative is driven by MitOst e.V. and supported by the Robert Bosch Stiftung, a major German foundation known for its work in health, education, and global issues. Since its inception, Actors of Urban Change has brought together changemakers from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, aiming for collaborative solutions to urban challenges. Started in 2013, the program has engaged participants from more than 10 European cities, including locations such as London, Oslo, Hamburg, and Valencia. Over its first six years, nearly 100 individuals took part, working on issues ranging from the revitalization of public spaces to the integration of newcomers and the greening of urban communities. A unique aspect of Actors of Urban Change is its emphasis on cross-sector cooperation. Project teams always consist of one representative each from civil society, local government, and the business sector. The program enables participants to develop local projects, share knowledge at international summits, and receive mentorship in project management and co-creation processes. Notable activities have included community-driven urban gardens, participatory design workshops, and advocacy campaigns for better public space use. Actors of Urban Change distinguishes itself by providing a structured yet experimental environment for urban practitioners to test solutions and expand their professional network. Alumni remain involved in a growing network, supporting new collaborations and projects across Europe.
