The European Community Land Trust Network is a pan-European alliance dedicated to advancing the Community Land Trust (CLT) model across the continent. CLTs are non-profit, democratic, and community-led organizations that develop and manage homes and community assets to ensure permanent affordability, particularly benefiting low- and middle-income households. The network brings together hundreds of local and national CLTs from across Europe, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building among its members. The Network’s core mission is to support the growth and impact of CLTs, positioning them as a mainstream solution for affordable, inclusive, and sustainable land use and housing. It acts as a collective voice to raise awareness among policymakers, NGOs, activists, and the wider public about the social and environmental benefits of CLTs. This includes campaigning at the European level for supportive policies, facilitating peer learning, and sharing innovative approaches to housing and land stewardship. By championing a model that separates land ownership from building ownership and uses democratic governance, the Network aims to combat housing speculation and keep housing costs permanently affordable. It also prioritizes policies that enable the creation and sustained impact of CLTs, including reforms to housing and land laws. The European Community Land Trust Network is at the forefront of efforts to tackle Europe’s affordability crisis and support resilient, thriving communities across diverse countries and cities.
