Metropolis is a global network of major cities, connecting over 150 member cities to promote sustainable and resilient societies.
Metropolis is a global network of major cities and metropolitan areas that aims to connect, share experiences, and foster cooperation among its member cities. The network has over 150 member cities, representing more than 608 million people, and includes over 1,300 political leaders and urban practitioners. Metropolis was established in 1984 and has been active for over 35 years, with its primary goal being to elevate the collective voice of metropolises on the global stage and promote sustainable, equal, and resilient societies. Metropolis operates as the metropolitan section of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) since its constitution in 2004. The network hosts various events, including the Metropolis World Congress, which brings together urban leaders and practitioners to discuss and share best practices in urban governance and development. In addition to its urban governance focus, Metropolis also has a separate project, the International Metropolis Project, which is dedicated to research and policy on migration, diversity, and immigrant integration in cities. This project was launched in 1996 and includes a network of researchers, policymakers, and community groups from across the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East.
