The urban sustainability exchange (use) is a global knowledge exchange platform dedicated to sustainable city making. Launched in 2014 as a Metropolis Initiative led and co-founded by the City of Berlin, it was formerly known as the Policy Transfer Platform before being renamed to emphasize its focus on implementing sustainable development goals. The platform serves as an online learning tool that connects citymakers worldwide, encouraging the exchange of ideas and experiences to create positive sustainable change. It hosts a growing database of nearly 400 case studies showcasing innovative urban practices and sustainable development projects from around the world. These case studies are professionally reviewed, edited, and regularly updated. Use is managed by the Division for International Affairs of the Berlin Senate Chancellary and operates as part of Metropolis, the World Association of Major Metropolises, which brings together 141 urban agglomerations globally. The platform is supported by the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University along with a global network of partners. Registration on the platform is free, allowing users to create profiles, connect with other urban practitioners, and share their own projects. The community currently includes around 500 citymakers, including politicians, administrators, academics, and urban practitioners from five continents, making it a comprehensive resource for those interested in sustainable urban development.
