Die HausWirtschaft is an innovative housing cooperative project located in Vienna's Nordbahnviertel. Completed in September 2023, it combines living and working spaces in a radically mixed-use building, housing approximately 250 people. The project was developed through a participatory process, involving future residents and tenants in collaboration with einszueins Architektur. The building features a diverse mix of spaces, including residential units, coworking areas, offices, a kindergarten, community spaces, a health and wellness area, a workshop, and a shared reception. The ground floor houses an event hall, restaurant, and small shops. The project emphasizes sustainability through shared resources, circular economy principles, and green spaces, including a rooftop garden. Die HausWirtschaft operates as a cooperative, focusing on creating affordable and flexible spaces for freelancers, creatives, and small businesses. It aims to foster a sense of community and provide shared services similar to a traditional 200-person company. The project also includes guest rooms for short-term rentals, further blending work and living aspects. This housing initiative represents a new approach to urban living, combining elements of co-housing with the principles of the New Work movement. It serves as a model for sustainable, community-oriented urban development, aiming to be a driving force in Vienna's evolving Nordbahnviertel district.
