HSB Living Lab is an innovative research and demonstration project located on the Chalmers University of Technology campus in Gothenburg, Sweden. Launched in 2016, this unique living laboratory aims to develop sustainable solutions for future housing by combining real-life residential experiences with cutting-edge research. The facility consists of 29 apartments housing approximately 40 students and researchers. What sets HSB Living Lab apart is its modular construction, allowing for easy modifications and replacements of building components. This flexibility enables researchers to test various materials, technologies, and architectural innovations in real-time. The building is equipped with around 2,000 sensors that continuously collect data on energy consumption, material performance, and resident behavior. This wealth of information helps researchers gain insights into sustainable living practices and develop innovative solutions for future homes. HSB Living Lab is a collaborative effort involving 12 partners from academia, industry, and the public sector. The project focuses on social, economic, and environmental sustainability in housing. It serves as a platform for testing new ideas, from energy-efficient systems to novel social concepts in shared living spaces. With its unique approach to combining everyday life with scientific research, HSB Living Lab is at the forefront of shaping the future of sustainable housing. The project is set to continue for 10 years, promising ongoing innovations in residential living and construction.
