ECOLISE is the European Network for Community-Led Initiatives on Climate Change and Sustainability. Founded in 2014 and based in Brussels, it brings together a wide range of organizations and networks across Europe committed to fostering local action on climate change and sustainability. Its members include prominent international initiatives such as the Transition Network, the Global Ecovillage Network, the Permaculture movement, and ICLEI—representing thousands of local projects, practitioners, and local governments throughout Europe and beyond. The core mission of ECOLISE is to support and accelerate learning, collaboration, and collective action among community-led initiatives. By sharing knowledge, promoting best practices, and fostering cooperation, ECOLISE aims to catalyse systemic change towards a more regenerative, equitable, and resilient society. The network recognizes the serious ecological, social, economic, and political challenges facing the planet, viewing grassroots innovation as critical in responding to these threats and building thriving communities that respect planetary boundaries. ECOLISE plays an active role in raising the profile of community-led action, co-creating knowledge, and influencing policy at European and national levels. By providing a platform for exchange, advocacy, and experience sharing, the organisation seeks to empower and enable communities to take meaningful, collective climate action. ECOLISE also works to establish a common agenda for sustainability and climate justice, ensuring that diverse local voices are heard and amplified across Europe.
