CRCLR House is an innovative circular economy project located in Berlin's Neukölln district. Situated in a former Kindl brewery, this pioneering initiative combines sustainable construction practices with community-focused living and working spaces. The project, which opened in 2022, involved retrofitting the existing brewery building and adding new timber and concrete hybrid extensions. CRCLR House stands out for its use of recycled and upcycled materials, sourcing about 80% of its construction materials sustainably. This includes repurposed windows from a Swiss residential building and fire doors from a hotel refurbishment. CRCLR House serves as a hub for circular economy projects, hosting workshops and events centered on sustainability and social impact. The space encompasses co-working areas, residential units, and communal spaces, fostering a collaborative environment for changemakers and impact-driven startups. The project faced challenges in sourcing suitable materials and complying with building regulations, but it successfully demonstrated the feasibility of circular construction. CRCLR House not only provides a physical space for sustainable living and working but also acts as an educational model, showcasing the potential of circular economy principles in urban development.
