Cooperative Housing Feld4, designed by MASStudio and completed in 2022, is an innovative residential project located in Basel, Switzerland. The project's primary goal was to create spaces for collective living that foster intensive neighborly interaction, akin to a family house community. The building offers a diverse range of apartment typologies, from studios to 5.5-room units, accommodating various needs and lifestyles. Flexibility is a key feature, with adaptable floor plans allowing for different configurations over time. This adaptability ensures the cooperative can evolve to meet changing resident needs. Architecturally, the project combines a solid core construction with a timber shell for the façade and roof. This approach not only achieves cost-effectiveness and sustainability but also creates an aesthetic that bridges the area's industrial past with its residential future. The exterior features an industrial look contrasted with wooden elements, while the interior emphasizes a bright, natural atmosphere. The participatory planning process was central to the project's development, involving future residents from the initial decisions on typology through to the fine-tuning of details and materials. This collaborative approach resulted in a highly personalized and community-oriented living space.
