Banca Etica is a cooperative bank operating in Italy and Spain, established in 1999 as the first Italian bank dedicated to ethical finance. It focuses on funding projects in social welfare, environmental protection, international cooperation, culture, and sustainable innovation. The bank manages savings of responsible organizations and individuals, using them to finance initiatives that support collective well-being. As of 2024, Banca Etica has over 48,000 members, €92 million in share capital, nearly €2.5 billion in savings holdings, and around €1.2 billion in loans. Banca Etica's distinctive feature is its integration of social and environmental assessment in evaluating creditworthiness. The bank finances enterprises in sectors such as social cooperation, international solidarity, environmental conservation, and cultural development. Recently, Banca Etica partnered with the European Investment Fund to provide €200 million in support of social enterprises and microenterprises in Italy and Spain. Another agreement with the European Investment Bank aims to drive €165 million in investments, focusing on women-led SMEs, refugee services, and economic development in southern Italy. The bank is part of international ethical finance networks, including the Global Alliance for Banking on Values and the European Federation of Ethical and Alternative Banks and Financiers.
